Saira Banu was extremely close to her grandmom who used to teach her singing. In fact, she also wanted to be a singer herself.Saira faced a difficult time in her marriage when her husband Dilip Kumar fell for another lady, Aasma. But she didn’t leave his side and fought back till she got him back.In 1962, Saira who was just 22 at the time got married to superstar Dilip Kumar who was 44 years at that time.After having a long time affair with Rajendra Kumar, she got married to Dilip Kumar in 1966.
Saira Banu had revealed in one of her interviews that she had a huge crush on Dilip Kumar from the age of 12. She first saw him on big screen in the film ‘Aan’ in the year 1952 and she instantly fell in love with the most charming man Bollywood had ever witnessed.
After taking a break for a few years, she appeared alongside her husband in the film ‘Duniya’ in 1984. Even though she was one of the most popular actresses of her time, many of her films were commercial disasters which made her decide to retire from her acting career. In 1988, she appeared in the hit film ‘Faisla’, opposite Vinod Khanna. It was the last film of her acting career.
